9 Fresh Makeup Trends You’ll See All Of Winter 2023

9 February 2023
The sound of Mariah Carey’s whistle tones is almost everywhere, ladies and gentlemen, and just as quickly as cozy fall replaced the heat of summer, the days have become (sadly) shorter and chilly winter is officially upon us. Grab your peppermint mochas and dust off your (surprisingly in-fashion) mini platform UGGS as soon as possible. While pumpkin pie aromas are being replaced by icy, pine-scented holiday candles, this winter’s makeup trends are also undergoing significant shifts daily.
To match the fiery red changing leaves, the beauty trends of fall included a lot of graphic liner that was inspired by Euphoria, makeup that was imperfectly lived in, and bright coral colors. Experts are also focusing more on glass-like skin that is super hydrated to combat the colder temperatures in the winter, ultra-bold blush applied all over for a sweet monochromatic look, and unexpected eye colors.
Here are the nine makeup trends that experts say you should try this winter, whether you need to completely revamp your makeup bag or need some ideas for the busy holiday season. Get involved.
- An “I’m Cold” Bold Flush The cheeky winter’s response to the summer’s “sunburn blush” trend is the latest trend sweeping TikTok’s viral platform. The goal is to appear as though your complexion has been blasted with icy winter air. The following is a quote from celebrity makeup artist Allison Kaye, who is based in Florida: Flushed cheeks will be in this winter because there are so many people who love blush. Apply close to the apples of the cheeks, up close to the temples, and blend into the brow and cheek bones. A final “I’m cold” touch is to apply a small amount of pigment to the tip of your nose.
- Shades of Green It is safe to say that green colors are having a moment, especially when it comes to looking at them, and Danessa Myricks’ limited edition Lightwork Vol. IV: If you want to join the colorful trend, the Transcendence Palette is the ideal cosmetics purchase. Professional makeup artist and Sephora’s Beauty Director David Razzano describes the formulas as follows: There are pressed chrome flakes that glide on with a creamy softness but pack the vibrancy of a firework display, duo chromes that look like an alchemist fused two metals together, soft glitters that apply so smoothly and create an ethereal twinkle of light, aqua chromes that can be manipulated into precise strokes worthy of your sharpest otherworldly cat eye creations, and duo chromes that look like an alchemist fused two metals together.
- Be Bejeweled Euphoria was a complete cultural shift, and the power of the show is especially evident in regards to makeup trends. Judi Gabbay, a celebrity makeup artist based in New York, shares: Rhinestones are still in style, so don’t throw them out just yet. Don’t try to match your eyes perfectly or be precise with your stones. It exudes the euphoria we all crave when applied sparingly to the temples and eyes.
- Sensual Siren Eyes “With the TikTok trend of “doe eyes vs. siren eyes,” the siren eye, which has a cool tone and a smoky eye touch, will be in this winter. Kaye says, “Charcoal and silvery grey shades from Charlotte Tilbury’s Luxury Eyeshadow Palette in The Rock Chick are my favorite ways to create a cool-toned look.”
- Gabbay continues: Every eye shape gets a sultry lift from siren eyes and demi-lashes without making you look like you’re trying too hard. For the ultimate in glam, pair with glossy lips and fake freckles.
- Glow-From-Within Skin Even though heavier foundation formulas are more common during the winter, radiant skin tints and juicy skin preparation products are gaining popularity. Regarding the trend, Kaye says: One of winter’s drawbacks is dry, dull skin. However, with some fantastic new products on the market, people will be glowing this winter. I use the Saie Glowy Super Gel Lightweight Dewy Highlighter all over my celebrity clients’ skin to make it look radiant (it basically acts as a primer). To complete the look, I also like to use a hydrating setting spray.
- Pops of Barbie Pink Barbiecore has been a top trend all summer long, and even into the winter, with playful pops of fuchsia on the eyes and lips. We’re talking about red carpet gowns, nails, and more.
- Glossy, fully frosted lips Kylie Jenner, Dua Lipa, and Hailey Bieber, among others, have been experimenting with icy blue frosted eyes. Kaye predicts that the style will be everywhere on the lips throughout the winter: I believe that frosted glossy lips will be in this winter as some trends from the 1990s begin to return.
- All-Over Blush The all-over blush trend has been popular and heavy for some time, and fortunately, it won’t be going away anytime soon. Here are some advice from Gabbay: An all-over blush is one of my favorite winter wearable trends. An editorial and monochromatic look can be achieved with brighter-toned diffused blushes that follow up to the temples and lift the cheekbones. For a more finished look, you can even apply your blush to the crease of your eyes.
- Coquette Lips The coquette style is everywhere on TikTok, with more and more glam moments that look like dolls, oversized hair ribbons, and frilly outfits. Additionally, the coquettish, feather-lined lips of this winter lend that supple vibe. Says Gabbay: The ’90s look you want without the graphic harshness comes from lips that are lined and feather out toward the center. You can wear it on its own, with a lipstick that is slightly lighter, or with a lip oil for a juicy pout.
